Product Review of Comic Life

This is an easy-to-use, fun, and quick app useful for creating picture comics. The look and function of the iPhone OS device variant have been changed to give full control over pictures taken with the camera or imported from the photo library to fit the user’s needs.

What Users Love About the App
“Fairly easy to use. Wide selection of template options and a good variety of design tools. Drag and drop ease of use and flexible template windows. May not appeal to serious career comic creators after a while, but it saves a lot of time in getting started if you’re new to it! It has a fun-to-use and easy-to-understand interface. A great way to get your feet wet when learning to produce a comic.”
“The design is so intuitive that if you have any experience with any design programs, the learning curve is practically zero! The very first time I fired Comic Life up, it was instant fun! Now that I’ve created a few cool projects with it, I’m thinking more and more in terms of how things would make a cool Comic Life image—whether it be an advertisement, a help file, training manual, or maybe even a political post or two.”
“With this program, I found a way to give a creative image to my presentations, invitations or messages on social networks. It is easy to use. It has many templates/design options, and I can download the images from my PC or choose to take a screenshot. It also allows me to intervene and imagine or create a cartoon. Good program.”
“It’s such a creative outlet to turn real-life photos into a comic book. It’s engaging and also puts an awesome twist on projects. It brings the old fashioned comic book that used to be a main source of entertainment back to life again.”
“Dropping and dragging in Comic Life 3 is easy and adaptable for the first-time user. Shaping titles and word bubbles are my favorite part. Keeping aspect in ratio without holding the shift-key is a plus when you’re creating on the fly.”
“Comic Life is fun to use because it has a lot of templates to choose from and the interface is intuitive. When your project is complete, it can be exported as a PDF, which makes sharing very easy.”
“The templates are incredibly easy to manipulate and understand. Everything is vibrant and the interface itself is clean cut. Very simple to navigate.”
“This software has been a blast to use, plain and simple. I think anyone would enjoy using it, even if they only have a passing interest in comics.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“This lacks some features for classroom use; kids may spend too much time playing with the program and not completing a project.”
“The ability to tell stories through comics or storyboards can be done in other, free, ways. This app is very smooth and easy to use, which is awesome, but the same educational experience can happen with other comic creation tools.”
“Once you understand the power of Comic Life, you will find lots of opportunities to use it in ways you did not anticipate when you purchased it. The only suggestion I would make to Plasq (the company behind Comic Life) is to offer more templates in the future.”
“Even though there are a lot of templates to choose from, it would be nice to have a library online where you can choose from other templates that people have designed.”
“My initial first impression was that it was “cheesy” looking. The initial templates lack stylistic guides beyond Kirby and Stan Lee, or the golden age of comics. Neither is my preferred style.”
“I wish there were more skew and perspective options for resizing panel boxes. I would love to see an algorithm that aligns other panels on the page simultaneously. For example: If I pick a row of panels and change one to a right trapezoid, then the following panel should become a left trapezoid.”
“When the internet is slow, the program hands up and I get an error message that refers me to online solutions or to simply close the program. When I have a good signal, however, it works fast and without problems.”
