What Users Love About the App
“Good example of an educational app. I used to use this one to demonstrate the Kindle Fire’s child-friendliness. Never crashed, never had a problem with the app.”
“I really like this app. I use it in the classroom and at home with my own kids.”
“The self-correcting feature is helpful. There are multiple levels. The player is given two tries to spell the sight word before the voice informs the player that they will spell it together. It’s really engaging, trying to help the penguin build an ice path (from the scrambled letters of a sight word) to get to the other side for fish. If the word is misspelled, the penguin sinks.”
“My 3-year-old is having to spell words I think are big, but she likes when the penguin walks across.”
“My granddaughter is having trouble in kindergarten learning her sight words, and that is one of the most important things they have to learn to ass. As a future educator, I looked at several free programs and this is the one she enjoys playing. If you have a child struggling with sight words, this is the program for you.”
“I used this application with kindergarten and first-grade students to enhance their sight word skills and I found that they enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we had a student that found it more fun to get the word wrong and dunk the penguin.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“My kid just started kindergarten last month. He loves this game, though I think some words are slightly advanced for him. So, this is perhaps better for a first or second grader.”
“A little too simple for my kiddo. I was glad it was free, but it’s just not very dynamic so I deleted it after a couple of weeks.”
“My son loves this app. I wish we were able to narrow the words down to the sight words he is working on in school. One of the apps we use lets you turn off words in parental control and then add them in as he goes. Maybe this could be available in the next update.”
“I just purchased this app. It looks great, but I can’t hear any sound. I can’t hear anything even after touching the sound button within the app. I’d definitely give it more stars once that’s fixed.”
