Product Review of 3D Brain4 Dice

4 Dice Fraction Games is a math game designed to teach fractions to middle and upper elementary school learners. The app teaches by first giving the answer and then working backward to teach learners the methods in a fun and interactive way. Teachers receive instant email feedback about the progress of their learners.

What Users Love About the App
“Kids practice adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions using a unique approach that builds critical-thinking skills.”
“I love that this app can be played between two players. By allowing students to connect they can group and play together. Another thing that I like about the app is that you can send progress reports. Also, when using it with a variety of students you are able to accommodate multiple players and track progress with different classes throughout the day. I oversee 80+ students and this app would be helpful for an educator in a similar position. I like the white board feature as well. It is wonderful that students get the chance to work out the problems as they would on scrap paper.”
“This is a fantastic app for 4th grade students and up. It reviews the procedures for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions in the instructions and gives the users challenges. The best part is probably the ability for users to challenge their friends and connect using different devices close by!”
“A very good app to help learners practice the four basic functions with fractions. In this unique approach, players use numbers rolled in dice to build an equation that must then be matched to a provided solution. The Bluetooth feature allows multi-player games in two devices. This amplifies the competition hook that appeals to young students. Based on a great concept, this app promises to solidify learners’ grasp of the math concepts they practice.”
“This is an excellent game for young students. It helps to develop math & logic capability to some extent. The game is tough and challenging even to a teacher. At first, one may think it’s quite easy to play since all the pieces are there and they just have to put them to the right place, but students would end up hours with a countless number of trial and error attempts. Since there is no certain formula to solve, a proper way to approach the problems is very important. The more my students play it, the more likely they will develop a good strategy to approach and solve it themselves. This kind of game has been proven helpful for maths skill development.”
What Users Dislike About the App
“My daughter just got this app today and I tried to email her score to her teacher, but it keeps failing. I tried to email the printable sheets to myself and that also failed. Is this a temporary glitch or a bug that needs to be fixed?”
“I got this app to help me study for math and BIG surprise, it doesn’t work! It freezes ALL THE TIME and I didn’t even get a chance to play since it was freezing up. Don’t get this app and DON’T waste your time like I did getting it!”
“This app is easy to use and a great way to build skills. There is one flaw, however. Students who come up with equivalent answers but different denominators are told the answer is wrong. For instance, the game tells you -5/4 is not equal to -10/8. Clearly it is, but this was confusing and frustrating to my students who would have gotten this right on an assessment. It is great as an option for practice, but students who value scores for their hard work get frustrated when they are penalized, in my opinion, unfairly. Someone needs to think a little more outside the box.”
“Just because it’s a ‘game’ doesn’t mean it would be motivating to your average kid. This is not for learning about fractions, it’s more for challenging someone with a lot of background knowledge. I can’t use it for my average elementary kids, I suppose it might work for a gifted middle school student.”
“Some kids might struggle with the format and do better with the more typical solve-the-equation approach.”
