Product Review of 3D Brain

Apps and AXS Biomedical Animation Studio developed 3D Brain for the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory DNA Learning Center. The app provides 29 interactive structures and detailed information about the anatomy and physiology of the brain. It also explains how the brain is affected by mental disorders and injury; each detailed structure also includes information on functions, case studies, and links to modern research.

What Users Love About the App
“Love this app! It helps me to understand my ADHD brain an my son’s Autism a little better. I would highly recommend this to everyone I know. Thank you for such a lovely app.”
“I love this app! It’s so easy to use. MMU sent me a link to it for my studies, and it also works great on my new device.”
“I endured a major brain bleed and it affected my short term memory but my long term is fine. With this app, I can now understand why my brain functions are somewhat impaired at times. I’m very grateful to be able to correlate my issues with this app. Thank you, it’s awesome!”
“Really amazing! I had an aneurysm in the subarachnoid region and the neurosurgeons used stents to contain the brain bleeding. Since the surgery, I got interested in discovering more about my own brain.”
“Extremely helpful, in my case, in the interpretation of post stroke damage. I’ve just opened this now and have already cleared up the question I had posed to neurologists in my immediate area that had remained unanswered. Knowledge is NOT dangerous., especially not for the patients! Good show!”
What Users Dislike About the App
“This is great but I hope they add more features such as 1.) Ability to zoom in and out. 2.) A slider bar to toggle opacity of the whole brain except the system you’re focused on.”
“This app is in no way 3D. It is just an interactive set of still pictures, kind of like street view on maps, which makes it impossible to manually select a brain region and see what it is. You can only select from a list. I guess that is fine, but 3D makes me think of an interactive 3D model and this is not that.”
“This app only has one picture of the brain, labeled with the most basic divisions, i.e. frontal lobe. You can spin the picture, but not with the labels. There is also only one page of text about the brain. I could see this working as a web page, but not an app.”
“Not much information. The pictures are about the extent of it. It is barely interactive. I thought I would be getting something with a bit more in-depth anatomy and physiology. I don’t think you can even see internal structures.”
“Nice application, though I wish you could rotate in the vertical plane as well to see the inferior surface and possibly the optic radiation in relation to ventricles.”
