5 Best At-Home Strength Exercises To Stay on Track All Winter

As winter rolls in, the chilly weather and shorter days can often disrupt workout routines. However, maintaining a strength training regimen at home can keep you fit and combat the winter blues. Here are five of the best at-home strength exercises to keep you staying strong all season long.

1. Bodyweight Squats – Bodyweight squats are fundamental for building lower body strength. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, extend your arms out in front of you, and lower your body as if sitting in a chair until your thighs are parallel to the floor. Ensure your knees do not go over your toes. Push back up to the starting position and repeat.

2. Push-Ups – Push-ups work your chest, shoulders, triceps, and core for a full upper-body workout. Begin in a plank position with hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. Lower your body down keeping your back straight, then push back up to the starting position.

3. Lunges – Lunges are excellent for working leg muscles and enhancing balance. Step forward with one leg and lower your hips until both knees are bent at about a 90-degree angle. The forward knee should be directly above the ankle, not pushed out over the toes. Return to the starting position and switch legs.

4. Plank Holds – A plank is powerful for building core strength and stability. Position yourself in a push-up pose but hold the position using your forearms on the ground instead of your hands. Your body should form a straight line from head to heels; hold this pose for as long as possible.

5. Glute Bridges – Glute bridges target the glutes, hamstrings, and core stabilizers, vital for lower back health. Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the ground. Lift your hips off the ground until there’s a straight line from knees to shoulders. Squeeze at the top then lower back down slowly.

By integrating these exercises into your daily routine, you can maintain muscle tone and stay healthy throughout the winter months from the comfort of your home.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
